Who are www.ahouseinnormandy.com?

We are a small family business, just happening also to have our own house in Brittany... encouraged to start our business by the man who introduced us to our house when the market was haphazard and somewhat ragged around the edges. Because we had a few unexpected and potentially unpleasant experiences ourselves en-route to buying our own dream home...we thought we would like to help people make fewer mistakes! 13 years down the line it seems still to be doing OK. What do www.ahouseinnormandy.com do?

Our role is to show you, on our websites, the type of property available from our agents in as many as ten micro regions of Brittany & Normandy, from the sophisticated Honfleur, Deauville & Lisieux in Normandy to the chic Concarneau & Benodet on Brittany's South Finistere Coast- from Guingamp and the resorts of Brittany's Cotes d'Armor coast...Lannion, St, Quay Portrieux, Binic & St Brieuc to Dinard, Dinan & St Malo and. Recently we have also added Ille et Vilaine and the north of La Loire Atlantique to our portfolio. If you see a house on our site that takes your fancy we can introduce you to the agent directly responsible for it who can show you the property and any other houses from their own portfolio. The market moves fast and therefore changes rapidly. We don't show all of the properties here...the web would explode!

Who pays AHIN for doing it?

Well, indirectly the purchaser of any property pays...but we receive a commission from our agents throughout Brittany & Normandy - but only when you have signed the acte finale on the property. And your house does NOT cost you more because of our involvement. Our ability to offer properties via our widening Brittany & Normandy network allows you to effectively scour the market.

How much does the service cost?

We make no charges to you, the buyer, before you buy. Some UK agents do and we think that is very wrong (you know who you are!)... Especially when our agents include a support service during your purchase process free of any extra charges.The price you see in the description panel includes agency fees. The Notaire's fees which are extra to that on a sliding scale* according to the price of the property. A good yardstick is to expect the Notaire's Fees to add appx 8% to the price seen on each property page. If you are uncertain about anything relating to this then please  ask us or the agents on the ground during your viewing.

*Being based on a sliding scale (so not the same across all price bands) makes it impossible to apply a broad brush approach...If you have a specific query then please ask. For ourselves, whilst in the buying process... we received funds back following the signing of the Acte Finale.

Who arranges the Ferry trip?

Well this is your bit...You do. There are two ways to go about buying a house via ahouseinbrittany/ahouseinnormandy in association with our officially registered Brittany or Normandy based immobiliers.

  1. If any of the houses on the site appeal to you (be patient...we are adding new ones as quickly as we can) and you are ready to travel and view - contact us by either completing the form at the bottom of a property page or click the 'Shortlist' button on each of the property pages that catch your eye - when you're done click to send the list to us and you will then be able to add your contact details. We'll check availability and get back to you and arrange for you to meet the Immobilier during your time in Brittany or Normandy - You'll then have an opportunity to view the property of your choice and any others that you may have seen on our agent's books whilst over there.
  2. You may be thinking of visiting Brittany or Normandy on a viewing trip. If so why not supply us with your travel dates...your address, telephone and e-mail address as well as your buying criteria:- Property type:- farmhouse, longeré, village-house, chateau, manoir, apartment...Location:- rural, hamlet, village, town. Condition:- For complete Renovation, Habitable but a project, Finished. and the Immobilier will use your search criteria to pick houses to present for your consideration on arrival at their offices: Voila!
